Dr. Luke de Freitas grew up just outside of Ottawa and spent his summers working on horse farms. He was inspired to go into veterinary medicine after spending time with the veterinarians who would come out to the farms to work on the animals. He completed his undergraduate degree in Biomedical Science at the University of Ottawa, then set off to the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine, and graduated as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2019.
After working for 2 years as an equine veterinarian, he made the jump to small animal medicine in 2021. He has been thoroughly enjoying the surgery and medicine involved with dogs and cats and is keen on continuing to pursue these passions. Dr. Luke is proud to be working with such a great team at Nepean & Chapman Mills Animal Hospitals and thoroughly enjoys seeing all of his furry patients each day he comes to work.
Outside of the hospital, Luke can be found playing sports – tennis, soccer, and hockey to name a few – or sitting on the couch watching his favourite soccer team, Arsenal. His cat, Jiminy Cricket, makes for an ideal, albeit slightly mischievous, roommate.
