Microchipping

A microchip is a tiny, rice-grain-sized chip that can help reunite you with your lost pet.

A microchip can be the only thing that gets you reunited with your lost pet. There are cases of pet parents getting back their furry friend years after being separated with the use of a microchip. Though we hope your pet doesn’t take that long to return home it’s always better to be prepared. Microchips are permanent forms of identification that cannot be destroyed or separated from your pet’s body, unlike ID tags and collars. To learn more about microchips, please call us at 613-829-0220 or 613-843-1334.

How big is a microchip?

Microchips are extremely small, they are about the size of a rice grain. Implanting the chip will feel like a pinch to your pet.

Can a microchip tell my pet’s exact location?

No. Your pet must first be found by someone for the microchip to be scanned. Once your pet is found and brought to a veterinary hospital or humane society without an ID tag they are scanned for a microchip. If a microchip is present it will transmit an ID number on the scanner that can be used to contact you. The veterinary office or humane society will call the microchip manufacturer and give them the ID number to get your contact information.

How can I update my contact information?

When the chip is first implanted you register with the manufacturer to upload your contact details. It is very important that if you change your address or phone number, you inform us right away so we can help you update your information.
